Michigan Veterans Resource Service Center Offers One-Stop Shop for Veterans’ Resources
Northville, MI (Law Firm Newswire) January 13, 2015 – July saw the launch of the Michigan Veteran Resource Service Center (MVRSC), a new program designed to serve as a one-stop information shop for veterans and their loved ones to learn about programs and benefits.
MVRSC was launched by the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency with the United Way’s 2-1-1 telephone information system. The 2-1-1 provides information on resources in the community, such as food and housing assistance. The program is designed to address a lack of centrality in resources, which can make it difficult for veterans to access much-needed services.
“This program is the first of its kind in the nation,” said Jim Fausone, a veterans’ disability attorney based in Northville, Michigan. “It will allow veterans to connect with resources and service providers more easily.”
Uniting with 2-1-1 will bring in 8,000 additional services. Organizers also hope that the service will make it more convenient for veterans and their families to get help.
Veterans interested in services can call 2-1-1 or 1-800-MICH-VET, or they can visit MichiganVeterans.com to learn about state programs and federal benefits and to get referrals to community veteran programs.
Since July, MVRSC has received over 2,000 calls. The program helps about 30 veterans daily.
Funding for the program comes from the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency’s state appropriations. It received a $35,000 grant to cross platforms.
Six staff members run the office, which answers calls Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 2-1-1 takes calls on nights and weekends.Learn more at http://www.legalhelpforveterans.com Legal Help for Veterans, PLLC 41700 West Six Mile Road, Suite 101 Northville, MI 48168 Toll Free Phone: 800.693.4800
