Steinberg Law Firm Community Fund Program Makes Donation to Doors to Freedom

Charleston, SC (Law Firm Newswire) October 10, 2017 – Through the Steinberg Law Firm Community Fund Program, the Steinberg Law Firm will be making donations to many 501(c)(3) organizations this fall. The staff of the firm collaborated with the program to select and present several organizations that were important to them.

One such organization is Doors to Freedom, which was created to provide a safe haven for domestic minor female survivors of sex trafficking, and to give them an opportunity to have a better life. The Steinberg Law Firm will donate $2,500 that will finance the purchase of two computers and software to help further the girls’ education.

Doors to Freedom serves girls from the Charleston and Lowcountry areas of South Carolina. The organization has made a commitment to provide a home, free of charge, for survivors of sex trafficking and is the first organization in the entire state of South Carolina to provide such resources for victims of sex trafficking.

Doors to Freedom offers life-skills training, personal growth and continuing education that enables the girls to make a new life for themselves, filled with hope and a promising future. The organization works with the girls by helping them in achieving their educational goals and offering therapeutic recovery.

Doors to Freedom discovered that they needed to establish their own private school in order for the girls to succeed. This is because most young girls who are victims of sex trafficking have little or no education. The majority of the girls with whom the staff have worked with should be in the 10th grade on the basis of their age. However, they generally test on a 5th grade level.

Each survivor needs to obtain an education in order to become a productive member of society. Therefore, the staff at Doors to Freedom work with each girl individually to create a growth plan that will help her realize her educational objectives, including graduating from the organization’s private high school.

Currently, one of the major obstacles in the organization’s education department is a lack of computers. The curriculum of the organization uses resources online that supplement the material the girls are learning in their courses. These online resources will enable them to gain mastery over the concepts, and aid in their retention of the content. The monetary donation from the Steinberg Law Firm will be greatly beneficial to the girls’ educational development by allowing them access to computers and educational software.
